How did you decide to be a professional model? Who or what inspired you?
I never decided if I wanted to be a professional model coz, I always had a flair for it. With growing age, it developed into passion and hence I am pursuing what I love the most.
My inspiration comes with a story. I was born with flat foot and doctor advised my parents to make me walk with a book on my head and in a straight line (maintaining balance was tough due to the deformity). My mother wanted me to walk like models and hence I inculcated their walk by observing them all the way and their dressing too! I used to stare at the models on FTV back in my childhood days to teens and admired them. This hasn’t changed till now, coz I still observe the Victoria’s Secret Angels and try to learn from them as much as possible.
What was your first job? How did it feel?
I got closer to modelling in my college days. Achieved a position in ‘Ms North India top 12’18’ among 200+ girls. You know, the thing you’re passionate about you’ll obviously excel in it and without any such preparation I won such a position which I never dreamt of. I was so overwhelmed by that recognition and it’s one of that moment of my life I’d love to relive again and again. I hadn’t had a chance for a real modelling job other than that but looking forward for a life changing opportunity.
What is your dream modelling job?
My dream modelling job is to be a runway model for big brands like Lakme and work with biggest designers & modelling agencies. Who doesn’t love to wear and showcase those luxurious outfits, but more than that I am the real me on runway and I won’t give up on that dream easily. Also, to be a part of show called – “India’s Next Top Model”, I’ve been following every version of this show even if it’s American or Asian. I see myself there in next 1-2 years.
What magazine would you like to be on the cover of?
For me this question has an obvious answer- “VOGUE”. Me being on its cover means everything to me.
What do you enjoy most of the modelling?
The thing I enjoy the most about modelling is- it makes me connect to my real self the most. It’s a sort of validation for me that I am beautiful and confident. I love being in pictures, getting ready & match my steps with the beats in music and walk like “I’m sexy and I know it”. It also gives me ability to take care of my appearance and myself, self- reliance, discipline, a pleasant- professional attitude with good peoples’ skills, fitness and last but not the least- ability to cope up with criticism and rejections. Being an extrovert and a people’s person, it also gives me opportunity to interact with different people which is much better than a desk job for me.
What are your hobbies?
My hobby and passion both of them is ramp and modelling. Other than that, I love baking cakes and chocolates. Also, being updated to the fashion trend can be counted as a hobby.
What is your personal style?
When it comes to styling, I am really experimental. My style has its own way to exhibit my inner self. I am a cheerful person and thus I like my outfits to be comfortable, light, quirky, colourful, vibrant and retro themed (since I love high waisted bottoms). I just love my body shape and hence try to wear something which enhances it. According to me fashion is nothing without elegance and hence I never leave it without a hint of it.
How do you keep in shape?
Okay, so a good body shape is something a model is nothing without so there’s no exception in my case as well. For that I workout for two hours a day, avoid junk and rely on fluids mostly. Rigorous running is also very helpful for me. Main part of my exercise routine is squats.
What is in your purse or backpack?
Well, my purse is always full of spare accessories and makeup. Makeup stuff like a compact, mascara, ‘n” number of lipsticks, a small perfume and a highlighter (coz you never know when will you need it in case of touch-up).
Who are your favorite designers?
I am a person who feels the most beautiful and elegant in ethnic and when it comes to ethnicity no one’s better than Sabyasachi according to me. Talking about international designers Donatella Francesca Versace and Gianni Versace who have founded the world acclaimed brand “Versace” and there’s nothing about their work which I don’t love.
The photographer of my dream magazine “Ellen Von Unwerth”. She works for biggest magazines and brands. Her work is unique and creative. Talking about India, my favorite is like the most- “ Dabboo Ratnani”. Just thinking about getting clicked by them gives me butterflies in my tummy.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
I learnt French for two years and during that course I learnt even more about the wonderful country France. It’s full of literature, philosophy and beauty. It has a vibrant and beautiful culture. Also, it’s capital of fashion- Paris, are the reasons I’d love to travel to.
Though my all-time favorite place to travel is Himachal Pradesh, India. I have been visiting it for past 11 years in a row now. It feels like a whole different world in itself full of nature which actually gives me a calm feeling. Feels like heaven on Earth.
What is your all-time favorite movie and why?
That’s a tough choice for me. My all-time favorite Bollywood movie is “Queen”, reason why, coz it shows you don’t need someone to love you, self-love is enough.
Which do you prefer, Heels or Sneakers?
I believe heels are not a part of clothing but a part of me. It’s not coz it enhances my height but I just love walking in it, boosts my confidence. That’s the main part of my wardrobe on which I spend hefty amount of money. Sneakers are not at all an option though in my case. There are hardly any days I leave my house without heels. No matter how hard I try I can’t refrain myself from buying a nice pair of heels every month. Walking in it feels like I own my life.
Describe your sense of style in 3 words.
My fashion in 3 words would be- colourful, quirky and elegant.
What are your future plans?
Main focus of my future is stability in the career I dream of and it must have a sense of satisfaction.
I believe one must work according to what they love and that’s what I’m going to do. I would do my level best to achieve my dream job, i.e., walk for biggest brands and win “India’s Next Top Model”. I won’t leave even a 0.01% chance of winning.
