What made you first become a model?

I was actually really bullied when I moved to Brampton. From grades 7 to 12 haha. Called all sorts of names, had all sorts of things happen to me. My self esteem was really low. So eventually, I started working on things to improve myself like working and meeting new people/friends, started wearing nicer clothes, got rid of toxic people around me and started surrounding myself with better people. When I started university, I made a lot of new friends and was really happy about that. So I thought to myself, “I hate taking pictures…so let’s jump into the deep end of the pool”! So then I just dove right into my fear and tried modeling out in 2011.

How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot?

Haha oh man, when I had my first photo shoot I was so shy and nervous. I knew I could be good but I was just unconfident. But I kept reminding myself why I’m doing this. Even when I got my pictures I wasn’t happy how they turned out… I was really discouraged but something inside me was like “YOU ARE NOT QUITING”! So I kept going hahaha. When I had my first runway audition, I couldn’t walk in heels and I remember the trainer was like what are you guys doing here etc. I remember that I was holding back my tears so badly. As that training session was done, I was walking back to my car and I had a moment where I stopped and I put my hands up to my face and almost cried thinking what the hell am I thinking I’m doing here? I’m not a model, what did I do to myself. I should just go home and stop. But you see, the thing is, I’m not a quitter. So I went home, put on my big girl pants and started watching YouTube videos and started learning and teaching myself.  The next week when I went back in to the rehearsal, the trainer literally stopped and said, “what happened to you?! You are completely different now!” and that really made me happy. Getting on that stage was another amazing feeling, the loud music playing, all the lights and cameras on you, people cheering for you- it’s all so amazing! Oh, this was in January 2012 haha my first year of the ball properly rolling.

Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model?

You know, it’s always easy to say things like , “my mother, this actress or that model” etc.  I remember I would always say generic things in school growing up but truly not knowing who my role model was or have that feeling like YES EVERYTHING THIS PERSON IS I ASPIRE TO BE LIKE or whatever. Even until now, it’s hard for me to know who my role model is.  I will say I have some people that I look up to that I feel can offer me guidance etc.  For modeling it is Coco Rocha, she is just my all time favorite model! I use her for inspiration for how to pose etc. Otherwise there is Rakhi Mutta from Ms Mutta productions. She is the everything for Anarkali the web series. She is such a bold, strong minded and willed, thoughtful wonderful person. She doesn’t apologize for what she believes in and she is such a supportive person! I am truly glad that I have met her.

What did your parent first think of you being a model and where they supportive?

Haha, hmm… without delving too deeply, let’s just say in the beginning they were against it. I still have moments w them that they say things like “you’re wasting your time” etc they definitely do have their ups and downs w this but… I don’t care? I love what I do and I am not stopping. Mom has been to a few events of mine and she seems happy about it 🙂 so it’s getting better. I think as parents they are always going to have concern because of the industry that it is.

If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead?

Well, I went to school for Kinesiology and Health Science and am a licensed kinesiologist and a personal trainer. I also have started doing hair and makeup and that’s been about a year. I have also started getting into more acting roles.  So, I mean if I wasn’t modeling, I still have a whole bunch of fall back plans.  I guess, I really excelled in anything art, beauty related – so I think I would find myself in that field regardless.

What are guilty pleasures foods wise?

Guilty pleasures food wise… New York cheese cake with strawberry sauce D: ! so good…. but I mean I eat anything [as long as its vegetarian haha]

How do you cope under the pressures of being a model?

Hahah cope with being a model / actress …hmm… I dont know… when I’m under stress I just feel so alive and feel great that I’m so busy with this work that I’m actually stressed about it hahaha. I don’t know, earlier this year I filmed for a Bollywood movie for an entire month! Everything was fast paced, learned your lines, acted it out and repeat all over again. Long days of filming, short nights to rehearse and then sleep only to get up at 6 am to start it all again. I love it! Haha so I guess my coping method is that I say to myself “I AM LOVING WHAT I AM DOING” and then keep going.

What beauty tips do you swear by?

OKAY! So every morning I always have a protein shake with bananas, strawberries and coconut milk. Then throughout the day I drink lots of water and eat decently.  I’ve started this since February of this year and everyone has been saying that I look more fresh, I look slimmer, and ask me what’s my secret….so there it is :p

What is your favorite fashion brand?

LOL how odd does this sound? I don’t care about brands etc. okay well … I just want my red bottoms shoes, but other than that, I really don’t care what brand clothes, shoes etc are I just are about how they look and how I carry what I wear. I truly believe confidence is what important, not who you’re wearing is.

Any learning’s you would like to share?

Well, I guess the answer right above this one is teaching number 1 hahha. If you are confident in yourself no matter what anyone else says to you, you’re better equipped to handle situations.

2 would be don’t give up no matter what anyone else tells you- if you love something do it !

3 would be my ultimate view on life: accept yourself- your strengths and weaknesses. And try to do one thing every day that is out of your comfort zone.  Because if you are forever in your comfort zone, you will NEVER grow. You will be forever stuck and probably thinking why couldn’t I do this, or that, or how come everyone else is able to do things, why am I so afraid of doing things etc. only way you can, is if you DO.

What are your future plans?

I want to travel abroad for modeling and acting! Adopt all the dogs! The travelling part is more specific to modeling/acting future. Otherwise, just basic things, get married, have a wicked career; maybe have some dog babies, etc.

But I want to reach out to people about bullying, I want to show, especially  in our community/culture that it is okay to stand up for yourself and go for what you want to do even if it’s different from what your parents want you to.

I want to reach out to people about confidence, self worth, self esteem, and self efficacy. It’s not to say I don’t have my moments of weakness, but overall it’s okay to feel what you are, but continue to do what you need to.

I am rambling hahaha !
