All of 24, TV star Pratyusha Banerjee had everything going for her. She entered Indian living rooms as the adult Anandi in the popular TV series, Balika Vadhu.

Recently, there were reports of a run in with the law, with Pratyusha filing a complaint against four men, who, she alleged, were posing as police officers. It was said to be a case of loan recovery involving her boyfriend’s car.

Praryusha is another addition in the grim list of celebrities buckling under depression. A report carried in a national English daily pegged India as one of the most depressed countries in the world. The reason? We are not ready to talk about it. Like Pratyusha, who may have lived had she talked to someone.

Depression is more common than we think. And the pressure to be “strong” and “snap out of it” has been driven into our heads so much, we carry on as long as we can.
